Smriti Mandhana Slams Her 5th ODI Ton; Harmanpreet Kaur Slams Her 4th ODI Ton As India Women’s Register 317 On Board Against West Indies

Smriti Mandhana slammed the 5th ODI hundred of her career in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 match against West Indies. Smriti Mandhana reached the triple-digit score in a mere 108 balls and also put up a 184-run stand with Harmanpreet Kaur for the 4th wicket. India registered a total of 317 runs against the West Indies, usurping their previous World Cup best of 284.

Smriti Mandhana held one end together, orchestrating important partnerships with Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur. It is for the second time that Smriti Mandhana has scored a century in the World Cups. She had earlier bagged a ton in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2017. It was also the second ODI hundred that Smriti Mandhana got against West Indies.

Smriti Mandhana And Harmanpreet Kaur Forges Highest Ever 184 Run Partnership For The 4th Wicket

India were 78 for three when Harmanpreet Kaur came onto the field. She and Smriti Mandhana then orchestrated a partnership of 184 runs for the 4th wicket. In fact, her stand with Harmanpreet Kaur went on to be India’s highest 4th wicket partnership ever in ODI cricket.

Smriti Mandhana was eventually dismissed for 123 runs off 119 balls, with Shamillia Connell getting her prized wicket in the 43rd over of the match. The opening batter failed to perfectly time a pull shot on the bowling of Shamillia Connell and found the fielder at deep mid-wicket.

Harmanpreet Kaur, however, continued her onslaught on Windies bowlers and notched up a century herself too. It was the fourth ODI ton for Harmanpreet Kaur and the second in World Cups. She was under plenty of pressure coming into the tournament owing to her poor form with the bat. But, the veteran batter proved why she is still an important figure in the team. Eventually, Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed for 109 runs off 107 balls.

Indian Women’s Team Went Past 300 Run Mark In Women’s World Cup For The 1st Time Eclipsing Previous Best Of 284/6

In the process, the Indian women’s team went past the 300-run mark in the Women’s ODI World Cups for the first time ever. The Indian team’s previous best in World Cups was 284/6 in their Group A encounter against West Indies in the 2013 edition of the tournament.

In the end, the Indian team put up a gigantic total of 317/8 on the board in 50 overs. Presently placed 5th in the points table, the Indian team could go as high as second if they manage to beat West Indies today.

Deandra Dottin scored a brilliant fifty while Hayley Matthews also supported her well as West Indies got off to a positive start before the former was dismissed soon for 62 runs in their bid to chase 318 runs. Opener Smriti Mandhana (123 runs off 119 balls) and Harmanpreet Kaur (109 runs off 107 balls) scored splendid hundreds and bailed India out of trouble with a superb fourth-wicket partnership as India posted 317/8 in 50 overs.

Spinner Sneh Rana dismissed Deandra Dotting for 62 runs to get India back into the game. Meghna Singh gets Kycia Knight’s wicket as India grab a crucial second wicket in the 16th over. West Indies Women have won both their matches, registering wins against New Zealand and England Women. With two points at stake, both sides will be aiming for a win in Hamilton.
