Former Pakistan cricketer, Mohammad Yousuf, has provided invaluable advice to Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel as they gear up for the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from December 26 to December 30.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Yousuf emphasized the significance of a strong technique, particularly for players embarking on their first tour to Australia.

“They [Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel] have gone to Australia for the first time, many players struggle, you need to be technically sound, have a strong fighting spirit, maintain solid technique, and work with patience on the field,” Yousuf said.

“Look, the ‘Bazball’ cricket that we hear is being played by England, other teams are not playing like that. Yes, if necessary, judge the wicket, adapt to the conditions, and watch how the bowler is bowling. Based on that, if you feel you can play aggressively, then definitely play. If a ball is not conducive for aggressive play, then how can you play it aggressively?” Yousuf added.

The former skipper also emphasized the critical role of mental resilience among the Pakistani players, asserting that their psychological readiness is commendable.

He once again reiterated the undeniable importance of possessing the right technique.

“In my opinion, mentally our boys are fine. If you meet them, you will find that mentally they are well. It’s a significant advantage to have the right technique. This is a recognized fact. Our technique should be correct from top to bottom. This is going to be a very important task, so a lot of work is going to happen here, that’s why this point is being reiterated again and again to focus on First-Class cricket,” he said.

It is worth noting that the Pakistan team experienced a crushing defeat against Australia in the opening Test in Perth, with a significant margin of 360 runs.

The hosts set a target of 450 runs, and subsequently, the visiting side was dismissed for a mere 89 runs.

The opening batter Shafique scored 41 runs in the first innings but couldn’t contribute in the second innings, being dismissed with only 2 runs to his name. Conversely, Saud Shakeel managed to score 28 runs in the first innings and in the second innings he scored 24 runs.

It’s worth noting that both players are touring Australia for the first time.
