Young Indian finisher Riyan Parag revealed the conversation that he had with Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli, which changed things around for him in recent times. The 21-year-old had a breakout series in the Deodhar Trophy winning the Player of the Tournament award with his excellent all-round skills for East Zone.
Riyan Parag had managed to score only 78 runs in the 7 games of the IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals followed by a dismissal outing on Emerging Teams Asia Cup but came back stronger and amassed in 5 games for East Zone with both bat and ball. In Deodhar Trophy 2023, he smashed 354 runs at a strike rate of almost 137 and an average of nearly 90 against some quality bowling attack.
Speaking on Indian Express after the completion of the Deodhar Trophy, Riyan Parag revealed that the valuable tips from the former Indian skipper have helped him to turn things around after the IPL and said that two or three bad games cannot determine his potential in the game and stated that RCB batter asked him to accept his failures rather than changing his process in the game.
“Mai puri baat nahi bata paunga (I cannot tell you the exact conversation). He told me ‘something that has worked for half a year cannot be wrong after a few failures.
“What happens in the IPL is that the tournament goes on so fast that after failing two games, you start to question yourself. Everyone makes mistakes and I have made tons of them. Two-three games don’t go your way and you feel (the need) to change your process and work ethic.
“It was him telling me that ‘take the reality check and accept that this is a bad phase but it doesn’t mean that you need to change the process that has been working for you’,” Riyan Parag said.
The 21-year-old has been performing exceedingly well for East Zone in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy 2023 scoring two hundreds for his team including a 95 runs in the final against South Zone. Riyan has been executing his role in the middle order to the best of his abilities and would look to continue his fine form going into the domestic season.
I Have An Idea Why People Hate Me – Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag has been facing backlashes over his attitude in the game and every time he failed with the bat, the experts and fans were harsh in their judgment. The 21-year-old received constant trolling on social media for his poor performance with the bat. Speaking on the trolling in social media.
“People have a problem with me chewing gum. If my collar is up that’s a problem. I celebrate after taking a catch that’s a problem. They have a problem with my gaming and playing golf in my off time. I have an idea why people hate me”.
“There is a rulebook about how you should play cricket. The T-shirt should be tucked in, the collar should be down, give respect to everyone, don’t sledge anyone, and I am completely the opposite,” Riyan Parag added.
The Assam all-rounder is known for his finishing skills in white-ball cricket as he can take on high-quality bowlers at any time and his bowling skills and gun fielding ability could also prove to be handy for any side.
